Craig...

Well, the kids finished their first 1/2 week of school (Wednesday - Friday) and Craig already has a girl...friend, Megan. The have spent everyday together after school and all day Saturday. So far they have watched a movie, played racket ball, played baseball, flew kites, played some spy game, and so on. I have already sat down to re-give him the rules. No dating until you are 16. You may have a friend that is a girl but you will not go on a date. You will not hold hands. You will not kiss. No touching! Saturday Craig got all dress up. Dave got mad at him and told him to change into play clothes. I had to explain to Dave why Craig was dressing up. We compromised with a nice shorts outfit. (Are we really having drama about clothes?) Now my debate is how long to I let them hang out at a time. After 6 hours on Saturday I finally called Craig home. We weren't doing anything so he was a bit confused. I explained that he may not get to play long periods time together with her, because the longer they are together during a day the more they may want to hold hands. (Was that good? -- I didn't know what to say but felt they had been together long enough.) The poor girl came over today while we were getting ready for dinner with the missionaries. There was a lot of awkward moments as Craig explained that he can't play on Sundays. She stood in the hallway by the door and he stood clear across the living room. The rest of us looked like we were watching tennis as we turned our heads back and forth watching the conversation. We didn't even pretend to not listen. Poor kids! Hahaha. He sure is growing up. Actually today I really felt proud as he stood up and gave his testimony. He was such a good example that Daniel stood up too. Now we begin the juggling game of finding the boundary line between freedom and safety. He is such a good boy that we lean towards freedom. He is such a lady's man that we lean towards safety. It is going to be interesting.

so does the girl live in the same complex as you guys??? our Brad (age14) had a "girlfriend" last year at school, we lived so far from pretty much anything that it was "easy" to keep contact down to school only.. there he DID hold hands etc. that we could not control But because we could not control that we DID control no hanging out after school etc.. etc.. you guys are doing the right thing you have to go with what works for your family... I say shoot ALL GIRLS who make eyes at my boys!!! I think girls are far more aggressive than they were when we were younger (dave may be rolling laughing at this post!!!) good luck guys!!!

You're right to set the rules down now, and tomorrow, and the next day...as long as it takes. It sounds like you'll be in for it. Good luck.

In the long run, Craig is going to want to be friends with lots of girls. He is going to be glad you gave him some boundaries to fall back on. He can just say, "My parents don't let me go steady (or date, or hold hands)". You've given him a safety net.
